Pedagogical University of Buenos Aires. First pedagogical university in Argentina. Project promoted by the General Directorate of Culture and Education with the aim of creating a space for education, training and research of knowledge and pedagogical practices that addresses the different humanistic, technical, professional and scientific areas, aiming to achieve the highest academic and educational level.
History
Unipe was created in 2009 during the administration of Adriana Puiggrós as Minister of Education in Buenos Aires, it is public and free and is responsible for “providing complementary training to that received by primary and secondary teachers, in their formal studies”.
The Pedagogical University Project of the province of Buenos Aires was promoted by the General Directorate of Culture and Education, with Law 13511 – Creation of the Provincial Pedagogical University.
“This university, the only one of its kind in the country, is in line with the educational tradition that believes in the continuous training of teachers. It is not training: it is the construction of a deeper link with knowledge,” he told Télam the rector of Unipe

Location and extension
Located in the province of Buenos Aires, the largest in the country, UNIPE seeks to provide answers to a diverse socio-educational population, which includes both large urban centers and small rural areas. In order to effectively cover such a vast area of 307,571 km 2, the blended education proposal is essential.
Target
The central objective of this proposal lies in the academic hierarchy of educators, articulated in an integral way to all areas of the educational field that allows the construction of a joint view of education at the local, regional and provincial level.
Venues and proposal
Currently, some 1,800 students pass through the classrooms of the Pedagogical University whose headquarters are in the Buenos Aires towns of La Plata, Pilar and Almirante Brown.
The proposal is aimed at primary school teachers and secondary school teachers in public and private management of the educational system.
The average age of teachers who enrolled in UNIPE is 36 years: 95 percent are women and the majority -60 percent- work two shifts.
The bachelor’s degrees are curricular supplementation cycles aimed at primary school teachers who have a tertiary degree with less than four years of training.

Secondary teachers, whose basic training is more than four years, have in the Pedagogical University an academic proposal in postgraduate courses that are organized in technical degrees, diploma courses or specializations.
Links with other institutions
In this sense, the UNIPE will maintain a privileged link with the School Directorate of the Province of Buenos Aires, with the National Ministry of Education and with teachers’ organizations and unions. In addition, it is proposed to establish partnerships with national and international universities, with the National Institute of Teacher Training, the National Institute of Technological Education, with teacher training institutes, with academic and institutional networks, with international organizations, foundations and public and private institutions., National and international.
From these associative links, the realization of various scientific developments will be promoted, implementing research projects and fostering sustained training processes over time, with the intention of contributing to the transformation of pedagogical thought and the promotion of knowledge in all its forms..
University publishing house
The publishing house of the Pedagogical University of the province of Buenos Aires, began its task in 2010, assuming since its creation the double challenge of thinking about our time and contributing to the creation and circulation of knowledge by producing texts that, in different formats, combine scientific rigor and quality disclosure. It is proposed to create a substantial catalog for the comprehensive training of teachers, researchers, university students and readers interested in contemporary problems.
