Beach Holidays in Tenerife and Gran Canaria Island

Tenerife Island

The main resorts of the island of Tenerife are located on its southwestern coast. These are Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. They stretched for 16 km along the coast. Here you will find excellent beaches, both with golden sand brought from Africa, and composed of volcanic sand; first class hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, water parks, zoos, golf clubs and dive centers. The development of this resort area began in the middle of the 20th century. Playa de las Americas is the center of the island’s nightlife, with many clubs and bars located in the Veronica Strip area. Los Cristianos is famous for its golden sandy beaches. There are 2 water parks in Costa Adeje – Siam and Aqualand.

To the north along the coast are the resort areas of Playa de San Juan with a wide variety of beaches (there are beaches with volcanic sand, artificial beaches with yellow sand and rocky beaches), Playa de la Arena (Playa de la Arena), which is considered one of the cleanest beaches on the island, and Los Gigantes (Los Gigantes), whose beach is located among the rocks, reaching a height of 500 m.

On the south coast of the island of Tenerife is the famous El Medano beach, which is the “capital” of windsurfing and kitesurfing in the Canary Islands. This beach is composed of golden sand. It is located a few kilometers from the airport and stretches for 3 km along the coast. In the southern part of the beach, the waters are calmer, but in the northern part, called Cabezo, 3-meter waves often occur. El Medano has many hotels, restaurants and bars.

Also on the island of Tenerife you can relax on the beach of Las Teresitas (Las Teresitas), which stretches for 1.5 km from the eastern outskirts of the capital of the island – the city of Santa Cruz.

Gran Canaria Island

According to Sciencedict, the most popular holiday destination on the island of Gran Canaria is the south coast, along which stretches a series of sandy beaches. This includes resort areas such as Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles and San Agustin. The total length of the beaches of the resort area is about 17 km, hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, golf courses and parks lined up along them.

The most popular and oldest resort in the region is Maspalomas. It is always crowded, noisy and fun. The sandy beach stretches for 12 km from the western cape, where a 70-meter lighthouse rises, to the resort of Playa del Inglés. Maspalomas beach is considered the most beautiful on the island, because it is surrounded by sand dunes. In the evening, tours of the dunes on camels depart from the lighthouse.

The Playa del Inglés resort offers vacationers a 4-kilometer beach, 12 shopping centers and numerous nightclubs. Here is the largest water park of the Canary Islands Aqualand with an area of 130 thousand square meters. m.

The beach of the resort town of San Agustin is only 680 m long and is suitable for those tourists who want to relax in silence. There are very few tourists in San Agustin, most often locals rest here. Not far from San Agustin is the Sioux City theme park, which is a copy of a small American city of past centuries in the style of the Wild West.

The resorts of Arguineguin, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan stretch northwest along the coast. (Puerto de Mogan). These resorts are less popular than Maspalomas, and are small towns that have grown on the site of fishing villages. However, there are more opportunities for water sports here: jet skiing, windsurfing, yachting, diving, deep sea fishing for marlin and tuna.

There are several beaches in the capital of the island – the city of Las Palmas. The most popular and cleanest beach in the city is Las Canteras. (Las Canteras). It lies on the western side of the narrow isthmus leading to the La Isleta peninsula. The length of the beach is 3 km. The coast is protected by a reef, so the waters are calm. Along Las Canteras there is a promenade with cafes and shops. On the other side of the isthmus near the city port is the kilometer-long beach of Playa Las Alcaravaneras. The port protects this part of the coast from waves, so the waters here are also calm. Near the beach there are many yacht clubs offering yachts for rent. At the southern outskirts of the city on the coast, the quiet fishing village of San Cristobal is interesting. The restaurants here serve the best seafood in town. Near the village stretches the beach of black volcanic sand La Laja (La Laja).
